ENTRIES

How do I make an entry?
Entries must be made by the Owner of the horse to the Entries Secretary of the meeting on the prescribed form.

Each meeting will have set a date and time by which all entries must be received. Once this time is past, entries are deemed to be closed.

The 'closing' date for entries will usually be on a Saturday or Sunday evening the weekend before the meeting. Some meetings do however close at 12 noon on the Monday before their meeting.

Full details of all meetings and race conditions can be found in the Point-to-Point & Hunter Chase Race Planner.

What happens once entries are closed?
Once entries have closed the Entries Secretary will check that all of the horses entered have a valid Hunter Certificate. A list of the entries is sent to Weatherbys Chase for validation.

Once validated entries are published on the Talking Point Fax Service (09068 44 99 88*) and pointtopoint.co.uk, as well as in the Racing Post Weekender every Wednesday.

The Entries Secretary will then pull together all of the horse, owner, trainer and rider information from the entry forms for each race for publication in the racecard on the raceday.

GOING

What do you mean by ‘The Going’?
Each meeting appoints a Clerk of the Course, and it is their responsibility to ensure that the course is in a fit state on which to race.

It is also their responsibility to ensure that the Going (condition of the racing surface/track) is safe.

The standard descriptions used to describe the state of the racing surface, i.e. ‘The Going’, are FIRM, GOOD to FIRM, GOOD, GOOD to SOFT, SOFT and HEAVY.

Variations in the Going may produce descriptions such as GOOD, GOOD to SOFT in places or SOFT, HEAVY in places.

How do I find out what the going for a meeting is?
You can call Talking Point - the Official Service of Point-to-Point racing, on 09068 44 60 61*, which has all the latest news and going reports as well as meeting previews. Also check the Racing Post Weekender and Local Press for details.
