Super Cannes: out to thwart Arrows Gold in the Brightwells Confined Championship

The Golden Valley Point-to-Point at Bredwardine this Saturday (17th May) will see the curtain drop on the Welsh Border area season, and the seven races on the card will prove a flying finale. It will be the 60th Point-to-Point the Hunt has staged.

The Brightwells Confined Championship will be a cracking contest, the 19 entries liberally peppered with class. Recent Maisemore winner, Saint Reverien strikes the eye, but local trainer, Mark Doyle has made no secret of the fact that Pat Mullen's Arrows Gold has been trained specially for this race.

Pat is a familiar face to many jumping fans, as she provides the excellent catering in the stable canteen at Hereford Racecourse. But there will be many trainers intent on thwarting Arrows Gold's ambition, including Bromyard-based Paul Davies, who produced Super Cannes to win nicely at Cold Harbour; and the veteran Coole Venture never runs a bad race.

The PPORA Leading Young Horse, Lady Myfanwy may well add to her seven victories this season in the Ladies' Open, and the Men's Open may prove a return to form for the Julie Houldey-trained The Wee Bishop, who ran into a creditable third position at Cold Harbour after a two year absence from the action.

The first race is off at Bredwardine at 1pm, and the course can be found (HR3 6DD) near Hay-on-Wye on the B4352.
