Lucy Pearce Rowsell: faces a concussion test before being allowed to ride again

Tash McKim, who suffered a badly bruised thigh and a damaged ankle when put through the wing at Kingston Blount, was passed by the doctor to ride at the weekend but elected to delay her comeback until next week.

The decision was prompted not by the fact that her intended rides included a recent faller plus the horse who inflicted the injuries, Maddie's Dream - "Rory and Karen Lawther texted me and said ‘Do you want one that's going to fall or one that's going to put you through the wing?'" she laughed - but because she was still in pain, which was intensified when she had her ankle injected and the needle was put straight through the nerve.

Lucy Pearce Rowsell, who dislocated her shoulder in a Bonvilston fall the same day, will have to take a concussion test before being allowed to ride again. She is considering calling a halt to this season, although she will make no definite decision until she has seen a specialist about her shoulder. "It's happened before," she said, "so I may have to get it operated on, because I'm not ready to retire yet!"

Tom Weston, who was fired into the ground when Slavedriver fell at Woodford on Saturday, was taken to hospital but allowed home when X-rays revealed the only damage to be a broken collarbone, although he too will need to take a concussion test. The following day was spent taking it easy at home, with Tom admitting "It's a good excuse for doing nothing!"

Miles Seston, who broke a leg and ankle on Easter Monday, is making good progress with the help of three physio sessions a week, and is coming on in leaps and bounds, according to his surgeon. Although still confined to a wheelchair, Miles is hoping that he will be given the all-clear to start using crutches in three weeks time, and will also be allowed to drive again. He admitted that he can't wait to get back on a horse, and his appetite will have been whetted further by a trip to Garthorpe on Sunday!

Marta Graholska, who took a crashing fall from Itsallupintheair at Fakenham on Sunday, was knocked unconscious for a couple of minutes and was taken to hospital for observation, although the senior course doctor thought it unlikely that she had broken any bones.
