14 February 2012 Betting Preview: Sinnington - Duncombe Park
by Will Milburn
The Sinnington Hunt have rescheduled their meeting to this Saturday at Duncombe Park. Will Milburn takes a look the contenders from a betting perspective.
Cheltenham looks to have come early in the Mixed Open as it has attracted some classy contestants. Former Foxhunter winner Amicelli was right backed to his best last time out, whilst the Oliver Greenall inmate Sheriff Hutton will be keen to earn himself a place at Cheltenham and a good effort looks on the cards. However the most eye catching entrant is My Flora from the Sheila Crow yard, unbeaten since March 2010 until falling late on in a Hunter Chase behind Chapoturgeon recently, and is a big fancy for Cheltenham. Just Smudge was a good winner on his Point-to-Point debut and is another who is attempting to make his way to the Festival. Gunner Jack will love this track, along with Keeverfield and Narciso who are top horses in their own right. Newcomers to the game include Canalturn who looks lightly raced under Rules and Cast Iron Casey, who was fairly consistent under Rules where he finished a length and a half behind Sheriff Hutton. Dark Moon is an improver and if any of the big guns fail to fire, he may be able to make a place at best.
Selection - My Flora
The Hunt Members race is first on the card and last year's runner-up John Dillon could take a place but looks outclassed by Father Murtagh and Pristine Condition. Father Murtagh, who stays extra well, was a creditable third to Sea Scout at Alnwick, whilst the Easterby contingent is a strong consistent stayer so could be a close match.
Selection - Father Murtagh
The Confined is always a strongly supported race and the Masons could get the season going with Chip N Pin, a progressive stayer last season and running well until unseating at Sheriff Hutton, so is one to consider. Elusive Swallow and Forsomeonelikeyou are strong stayers, Rich Hill is more than capable however has looked to need his debut runs in previous seasons, whilst The Rustlin Rhino racked up a quick double at Alnwick. It takes a fairly decent horse to do that and is one to keep an eye on. Sherwoods Folly is returning from a lay off and looks a hard ride, however Theatre Dance finished third at Alnwick on his Pointing debut, where Cheltenham hopeful Sheriff Hutton was ahead in second.
Selection - Theatre Dance
The Restricted could see another Sheila Crow runner in Woodview Prince who romped home in a Maiden at Chaddesley Corbett and could be hard to beat. Winter Sunshine should improve from his run at Sheriff Hutton, Grounded Again has got his act together this season and looks sure to have a race in him, whilst Reef Dancer looked a bit unlucky at Alnwick and could be the main contender to the potentially useful Classinaglass, who was a cosy winner on his seasonal reappearance.
Selection - Classinaglass
The Novice and Veteran Riders race has the most entries with 29 and Desert Tommy and The Ring who could only be separated by a head at Sheriff Hutton look to face off again. With Desert Tommy carrying a penalty and The Ring expected to improve from his three year absence the placings could be reversed. Borero was third behind Special Portrait and looks to be in the shake up, along with Canada Street who looks to stay extra well and usually makes the frame. Over To Joe looks a tough sort who always runs his race, so a good run can be expected. Sam Gawn was third in this race back in 2010, whilst Wantage Road stays very well but has been seen to best effect on firmish ground. Supreme Plan won well at Alnwick and with his form under Rules is entitled to go well. Pristine Condition however looks to have the best form after a string of placed results last season including two victories and should be capable of taking this.
Selection - Pristine Condition
The Maiden has been split three ways and in Division 1 Dead Ringa looks as though he could go well after finishing runner-up to two useful Maidens at Sheriff. Ganbei is worth noting whilst there seemed to be some confidence behind Floraclock on his last run where he came down. Railway Park now joins Maxine Stirk and if he can translate his form under Rules to Points, should have a chance. Queen Of The Blues was one to note after her debut last season, Harbour Way looks amongst the likely winners as he was narrowly touched off by the highly thought of Classinaglass, whilst Mister Splodge looks ready to make his presence felt.
Selection - Dead Ringa
Division 2 could see Arctic Pride go well after a pleasing Point debut at Sheriff, whilst Cherry's Bay, who has a decent pedigree, disappointed on several occasions last year and is one to keep an eye on. Red Express looks one to improve this season, whilst Sprout has a string of placed efforts to his name and may have to settle for another here. The fabricator showed his best effort at this track and has been lightly campaigned since but a similar effort can be expected, however Royal Deal has the best Rules form here after finishing third over hurdles and earning himself a mark of 104.
Selection - Royal Deal
Division 3 concludes the day's racing. Candleford is a new recruit to Pointing, and with a mark of 95 over hurdles from several respectable placings, he is an interesting contender. Carndonagh is another who switches codes, however looks to have stronger form which earned him a mark of 100, which is enough to contend most opens. Iznt Getting Court has some respectable bumper efforts and has some useful stayers in his pedigree. Sous Mix travelled like a winner last time and looks like a winner waiting to happen in what could be an average maiden.
Selection - Sous Mix
