07 April 2009 Preview: Vine & Craven - Hackwood Park
Fenton Ramsahoy, motor race driver, cricketer and all round athlete, returns to the scene of his latest sporting triumph at Hackwood Park on Easter Monday.
Frensham based Fenton, 46, will ride his horse, Heaven Is Above, in the Countryside Alliance novice riders race which opens the Vine & Craven Point-to-Point programme at 2.00.pm.
After winning for the first time at only his fifth attempt riding over fences, Fenton said, ‘I am so thrilled to have ridden a winner and can't wait to come back to Hackwood!' Heaven Is Above is one of 15 entries in the novice riders race and he will be the first of two runners to be saddled by Morestead trainer, Jenny Gordon. Jenny also runs Alfie's Isle, to be ridden by his owner John Maxse, in the Maiden race at 3.10.pm.
Hackwood Park racecourse has never looked better with new running rails round most of the track and reorganised parking for horseboxes which met with approval from trainers at the last meeting.
Clerk of the Course, Bill Wellings, said, ‘At the moment the going is firm but the grass is growing and there is good cover. We are promised wet weather by the weekend, so with luck we may get good ground on the day.'
First of two pony races for children is at 1.00.pm. and there will be the usual trade stands and entertainment for the young. Cars are charged, regardless of occupants, at £30.00. and £20.00. with a £5.00 discount for a single occupancy. Pedestrians pay £5.00.
