HEMINGTON: and Stuart Morris winning the Restricted race
A very large crowd enjoyed some excellent racing, when the Woodland Pytchley Hunt held their annual Point-to-Point on the popular Dingley course, near Market Harborough, on Easter Saturday, where seven races took place.
First race was The Dodson & Horrell Club Members Race and ten horses went to post. The race resulted in a good win for the thirteen year old Chicuelo, well ridden by Lara Mahon who was having her first winner in a Point-to-Point. Clearly in Motion and Rare Gold took second and third placings.
The Confined Hunts Race attracted a field of eleven. This was won by the Jimmy Tarry trained Bobbies Ryde. However he was pushed all the way by Lord of the Knar, who finished a half length second. Carbon Footprint, from the Fernie, took third spot.
Eight went to post for The Mens Open Race and this provided the most exciting and closest finish of the day. In form jockey David Maxwell took his mount, Noakarad De Verzee into a clear lead three fences out and just held off the fast finish of The Hookie Bookie, ridden by Tom Ellis. Favourite Cheyne was a well beaten third.
Five went to post for race four, the Ladies Open. This was won in comfortable style by the consistent Hutchinson trained Limerick Leader, ridden by daughter Gemma. The eleven year old took the lead on the second circuit and easily held off Move Over with the well backed Sir Storm, who looked as though he needed the race, a well beaten third.
Fifth race of the afternoon was the Restricted Race, kindly sponsored by Midlands Demolition and a total of twelve went to post. This was well won by the heavily supported six year old Hemington, equally well ridden by Stuart Morris. Morris took over coming to the second last fence to win by a comfortable four lengths from Definite Approach with Minehill Lad back in third.
Owing to the level of declarations the Maiden Race was split into two divisions. Division 1 resulted in a clever win for the Waley-Cohen horse, Lucciolina, ridden for the first time by Peter Mann. The Warwickshire home bred easily held off Finbar's Pi and Abbey St Bathans, who took the minor placings.
Nine maidens went to post for Division 2, which was run in a slightly faster time. This produced a win for the five year old Delgany Gunner under Ben Pollock. Orient Legend, who went off favourite, and Pirate Depp finished second and third.
Next Midland meeting after the Easter period will be the Quorn Hunt Point-to-Point to be held at Garthorpe, near Melton Mowbray on Sunday 19th April, first race time 1.30pm.
