22 August 2014 Oli Wadlow takes part in Charity Cycle Ride

North West area jockey Oli Wadlow, a Bristol-based accountant, last weekend swapped one type of saddle for another and embarked upon a charity cycle ride from Bristol to Barcelona in aid of "The Wallace & Gromit Grand Appeal" which is for the Bristol Children's Hospital and will help children not only in the South West but further afield. 22 August 2014 LANDMARK – Jodie Hughes

Jodie Hughes, who thought her race-riding days were over when she shattered her wrist really badly in a Hunter Chase fall at Hereford in 2012, recorded her 50th career success at Ffos Las on Thursday when partnering Panache to victory in a 2m Handicap Hurdle. 18 August 2014 POINT-TO-POINTERS PERFORM WELL IN NATIONAL ROR (RETRAINING OF RACEHORSES) FINAL

Point-to-Point horses and riders were in action yesterday at the National TARRA (Thoroughbred and Retired Racehorse Association) Championship Finals at the East of England Showground. Various TARRA qualifiers are held up and down the country during the Summer showing season and yesterday's final was held during the EQUIFEST event. READ MORE

18 August 2014 Overlut Retires

One of the top performers of the past few seasons, Overlut, has been retired. Following his lacklustre run at the end of the campaign in Stratford's two-miler, a contest in which he had triumphed in 2009, 2012 and 2013, he was found to have sustained a hairline fracture of the pelvis. READ MORE

01 July 2014 Sarah Stebbing retires as Yorkshire Point-to-Point Area Secretary

Sarah Stebbing has experienced many changes during her 15 year tenure as Yorkshire Area Point-to-Point Secretary. Starting in 1999, Sarah has been in post for five terms of three years but was rather coerced into the position. "I was at a dinner party when John Furness (area chairman) and Catherine Ward-Roper (the then area secretary) suggested I might like to take on the role as I would find it interesting," recalled Sarah. David Kemp signed off for the season with his fifth success in as many rides when Moroman scored an easy victory in this three mile contest, despite his saddle having slipped forward at an early stage. David, though, is used to his mount's tack malfunction. A double for Bridget Andrews at the Fitzwilliam (Milton) meeting at Dingley saw her extend her lead over Jacqui Coward in the National Leading Lady Rider Championships to four. Heavy rain prior to the meeting meant the ground was "good to soft, soft in places" but sunshine and a breeze ensured it dried out as the afternoon went on. The Yorkshire season came to a close this weekend at John Wade's track at Howe Hills, Mordon. Chris Dawson and Richard Smith fought it out furiously for the Gentleman's title and added an extra edge of excitement to the afternoon's action; however it would be Richard Smith that would take the honours with Chris Dawson making a valiant effort in the runner up position. Bridget Andrews doubled her lead in the National table aboard Jill Awdry's Cothelstone Ladies Open winner Latest Trend. Trained at Henstridge, Somerset, by Stuart Penny, Latest Trend tracked 4/7F Overlut - seeking to extend his unbeaten Cothelstone record to five - until taking the lead three out and easing home. "He is as good as anything I've ridden and was awesome today," smiled Bridget. "He found it difficult jumping out of heavy ground in two Wincanton Hunter Chases but his recent Larkhill win for Poppy [Skipper] restored his confidence. He's got a tremendous turn of foot and tonight's firmer ground has enabled him to show it." READ MORE

This Saturday is the final meeting in the Yorkshire calendar and ends with the South Durham meeting. 13 May 2014 North Hereford Meeting Information

After several of the early Welsh Border Area fixtures between the flags were wiped out by water-logging, the North Herefordshire Hunt committee refused to give up hope of running their meeting. Point-to-Point secretary, Frank Morgan entered lengthy negotiations for the fixture to be moved to Hereford Racecourse (HR4 9QU) on Saturday, May 24th, and this enterprising move, now signed and sealed, will certainly provide more opportunities for local horse owners. It was a landmark day for Chris Dawson at his local track, who on riding a treble managed to reach the 100 winner mark in Point-to-Points and Hunter Chases. Wayne Tuffin, clerk of the course for the United Pack Point-to-Point fixture next Saturday (26th) at Brampton Bryan (SY7 0JT) reports that the course has recovered well after the Teme Valley meeting, and that the bends and running lines have been moved wherever possible. Significant rain is forecast in the week, but should it not be sufficient, Wayne is poised with the bowser to provide the best going possible. Former top chaser Aiteen Thirtythree can complete a Pointing hat-trick in the Taunton Vale Mixed Open at Kingston St Mary on Easter Monday. The ten-year-old, winner of a bumper, a hurdle and two chases under Rules, made a winning return to Points at Kilworthy before easily outclassing his field at the Portman. Bedrock Fred could revisit Larkhill on Saturday to fight out the finish of the South & West Wilts Mens Open. El Tanner's 8-year-old gelding has contested his last six races at the Wiltshire venue, winning three, and came from last to first in 100 yards to triumph at the Hursley Hambledon here on Sunday. Stuart Morris has made a quiet start to the current campaign, but there was no better venue than Guilsborough, where he enjoyed so many victories as a jockey, to saddle his first winner of 2014, and less than two hours later follow up with his second. Anyone who had seen Tinker's Burrow run so well behind Palypso de Creek at Brafield would not have been surprised to see the mare go one better in the Ladies' Open under Gina Andrews. "We missed the last, otherwise she'd have won more easily," opined Gina after her mount had scraped home by a neck from Bay To Go.
Tinker's Burrow's target had been the Pytchley Members' race - "We only ran at the Oakley to put her right for here," admitted Stuart - but after her good showing with a lighter weight it was decided that Ladies' races would be a better option. READ MORE

Pastek ran a cracking race under co-owner/trainer/rider Martin Peaty to take the Mens Open at Milborne St Andrew on Saturday. Martin, a Dorset vet who was also on duty at the meeting, was considering retiring the 11-year-old gelding from race-riding after this season. However, he commented: "Today Pastek was full of himself, I couldn't stop him pulling to the front and he loved it. 18 March 2014 Preview: Lamerton - Kilworthy

The Condy Mathias sponsored Mixed Open has attracted a class field at this weekend's Lamerton Hunt meeting, Kilworthy, Tavistock March 23rd. Aiteen Thirtythree is entered, having won his maiden at Larkhill in 2009, then going onto win a bumper, a novice hurdle and two chases when trained by Paul Nicholls. He lost his form in the autumn and was bought by Tracey Parker, now trained by Kevin Parker, and could well see Natalie Parker get the leg up. Also entered is Hunter Chase winner Kirkleigh, who was just denied a win by Minella Stars at Buckfastleigh, and again had to settle for second at Cothelstone. Another entry, Lucette Annie was a recent Cheltenham contender, and Double Bank could line up, having also entered in the Cheltenham Foxhunter Chase only to unseat his rider at the first fence. Glorious sunshine and a fierce breeze led to ground that was good to firm, good in places at the Holderness Point-to-Point at Dalton Park on Sunday. The going change meant quick times were the order of the day on this true three mile course, packed with spectators, where three runners went to post for the Hunt race. The lead was always between Max My Boy, ridden by Will Kitchman, and Total Rebellion, piloted by Jacqueline Coward, who came out on top in the end, with Nalim and Harriet Bethell completing for third. 11 February 2014 Report: Combined Services - Larkhill

Theatre Queen belied her inexperience with an impressive win in the Coronation Gold Cup, one of Point-to-Pointing's four Classic races, at Larkhill on Saturday. The seven-year-old sauntered home 12 lengths ahead of useful yardsticks Bellsinni Ron and Rumbavu after leading at the top of the final climb. The mare had run in just five races before Saturday, winning four times and suffering her only defeat when left at the start at Wadebridge in December. Keeper/rider Mark Wall reported that Theatre Queen will not be aimed at this season's Cheltenham Foxhunter, but may appear at Cheltenham's Hunter Chase Evening on 30 April. READ MORE

Gwanako put up an "awesome" performance to win Sunday's South Dorset Ladies Open in a fast time under Megan Nicholls.
