RACING RETURNS TO KNIGHTWICK IN 2018

Point-to-Point Racing took place at various locations in the Knightwick (Worcestershire) area from 1946 until a move to Upper Sapey in 1984 but after 34 years at that venue a new course is being created and will be used for the first time on Sunday 29th April 2018 - (subject to BHA approval).

The success of any Point-to-Point meeting is weather dependent but despite moving dates on several occasions the event at Upper Sapey was always susceptible when conditions were dry and the 2017 meeting had to be abandoned due to hard ground.

Prior to moving to Upper Sapey the Clifton on Teme Point-to-Point was held at Horsham, near Knightwick and when news first broke about a resumption of racing in this area people automatically assumed it meant a return to the old venue.

However, this is an entirely new course and has come into existence due to the generosity of John and Sue Walker and will be located on land known as The Rock, Knightwick.

The course is just off the A44 Worcester to Bromyard road, and is on the left hand side just before The Talbot/Knightwick turning (if coming from the Worcester direction).

The course will be set out on meadows adjacent to the River Teme and will be left handed and oval in shape. Each circuit will measure approximately 1 mile and half a furlong, so a three mile race will comprise nearly three circuits of the course. Four fences will be situated in the back straight and another two in the home straight, making a total of six fences per circuit and 18 in total.

In future, the meeting will be marketed as Knightwick Races and this will be used in all future promotional material.

It is a major undertaking creating a new racecourse from scratch, but the committee seem unfazed by this challenge. A great deal of time and effort is still required and the organisers would be interested if anyone has any old steeplechase fences they are thinking of replacing or old running rails.

If you are able to help please contact the meeting's secretary Belinda Palfrey via email [email protected] or on her mobile number 07977 135339 and home number 01584 781014.

If you are interested in any form of sponsorship at this meeting, Belinda is the person to contact.
