Recent Chaddesley Corbett winner Harper’s Brook (Lot 8) will be running under Rules from the Gloucestershire stables of Ben Pauling after selling yesterday for £70,000 at Goffs UK’s December P2P Sale.
Bloodstock agent Tessa Greatrex of Highflyer Bloodstock made the winning bid for the four-year-old son of Ask, who on his debut won Britain’s first point-to-point exclusively for four-year-olds. The race was sponsored by Tattersalls Cheltenham.
Greatrex said: “He’s an incredibly handsome horse, light on his feet and athletic,” while Tom Ellis, who trained Harper’s Brook (pictured above, at the sale) to win his point-to-point, said: “I’m pleased he’s gone to a good yard, and hopefully he will be very lucky for his new owner.”
The Ellis stable also offered Ingeborg Zilling (Lot 30), a five-year-old mare who won a division of the Jockey Club Fillies’ & Mares’ Maiden race at Barbury Racecourse on Sunday. She will remain on Britain’s point-to-point circuit after being sold for £20,000 to Aberystwyth farmer Mark Lloyd, who will keep the mare at the yard run by Wyn Morris.
Two other winners from Sunday’s Barbury Racecourse card went under the hammer. The Alan Hill-trained Salt Of The Earth (Lot 22), who won a maiden race for four- and five-year-olds, was knocked down for £55,000 to racehorse owner Robin Woodward. He said the gelding would be running under Rules after joining Leicestershire trainer Laura Morgan.

He’s A Knowall (Lot 3), who won a division of the same card’s Flat race, left Mel Rowley’s yard after being sold for £30,000 to Banbury-based Jump trainer Paul Webber, while two horses who ran at Alnwick on Sunday also found new homes.
The Wise Traveller (Lot 9), who won a division of the open maiden race for trainer/rider Jack Teal, was bought by Greatrex for £38,000 on behalf of Oxfordshire trainer Charlie Longsdon, while fellow Highflyer agent Anthony Bromley secured Fitz In (Lot 27), who finished second to The Wise Traveller. Fitz In, who was trained by Harriet Dickin, was initially led from the ring unsold, but was subsequently bought for £27,000 by Bromley on behalf of trainer Harry Whittington.
Held at Yorton Stud in North Wales, the sale offered 31 horses of which 26 found a buyer at an average price of just over £90,000. The top lot, four-year-old Irish pointing winner Classic Getaway, was sold for £570,000 to bloodstock agent and Somerset-based point-to-point trainer Tom Malone. Gordon Elliott is the new trainer of Classic Getaway, whose valuation equalled the record for a point-to-pointer sold at auction.
