Minimum and maximum prize pots for all race types have been increased by 20% for the 2025/26 season.
Point-to-Point Authority Chief Executive Paul Miller said “ We’ve been looking at prize money for quite a while as it’s constantly flagged as too low and a blocker to attracting new owners and horses to pointing.
Like everything else it’s a balancing act, as although race-goer numbers have increased over the last few seasons, fixture costs have also increased as welfare and regulatory standards improve.
Prize money has remained stagnant for several years, and although in real terms the increase isn’t a huge amount, at least it sends a message to Owners that we understand their costs have also gone up”
Although it will be left to individual fixtures to decide what level of prize money they actually pay, by raising the minimum and maximum levels it’s hoped they will realise the benefits of increasing the money on offer.
Miller continued “In the 2025 questionnaire, results of which will be published in our upcoming Annual Report, prize money was raised as the number one issue. So, there’s no getting away from the fact it’s a problem that’s on people’s minds”
This is only one of a range of new initiatives the PPA will be announcing over the coming weeks for the 2025/26 season, so watch this space!
