A competitive six-race card with a scheduled 1pm start awaits racegoers at Eyton-On-Severn on Bank Holiday Monday (5th May) with the Mixed Open taking centre stage and the Gina Andrews-trained I'm Spellbound is the horse that immediately catches the eye.
However, the nine-year-old, who has progressed with each outing this term has other entries over the weekend and connections will be burning the midnight oil in the hope they make the right choice.
An obvious end of season target for I'm Spellbound would be something like the John Corbett at Stratford's hunter chase evening later this month but he needs to land a race such as this to qualify.
In his absence Monday's race appears to concern the likes of hat-trick seeking The Big Lense and Premier Fantasy. The former is another with alternative entries while the latter would be of plenty of interest if taking his place in the line-up.
Punters looking for a bit of value may well see the in-form Great Valley as the one to be with at a decent price. His five outings (three victories) this year make him a progressive type and if the race cuts up he can make his presence felt.
Ground staff did a great job at the previous meeting and the plan is more of the same - the course will be slit and watering will take place up to race-day in order to provide a good jumping surface.
It may well be a case of striking while the iron is hot as far as Kilfilum Woods is concerned as he was on his best behaviour when bouncing back to winning ways at Berkeley - partnered for the first time by Clara Brewitt.
One of his entries at the weekend is in the PPORA Conditions (Level 2) for Novice Riders at this meeting and he has more than a fighting chance as long as his errant ways (ran out and refused to race) are a thing of the past.
Dangers abound and chief among them could well be Blagthebookies, who is in the form of his life, and has built up a good rapport with owner/rider Iola Sankey. He can step up up if the selection fluffs his lines.
One of the fairytale comebacks of the season proved to be the success of 14-year-old Kauto Riko at Paxford over the previous Bank Holiday weekend when he ran away with the Members under Eve Hobbs.
The one-time classy Rules performer came out of retirement to land that contest and he has his chance once again in the Conditions (Level 1) race, even though this represents something of a hike up the ratings.
Kauto Riko would also have to overcome the dreaded bounce factor having been absent for so long and it maybe a bit safer to stick with Galileo Silver, who won over course and distance last month.
The Restricted has attracted the most entries on the card (19) and impressive Fakenham scorer Cheytac would be the selection but he holds other engagements which could leave the way open for Crocodile Lounge.
He stayed on well to score at Didmarton before being disqualified subsequently for a whip infringement and compensation for connections surely awaits as long as he remains in good heart. This flat left handed circuit should play to his strengths.
Course officials will be hoping there is no repeat of the chaos that marred the Four And Five Year Old Maiden at the last meeting and saw the race having to be eventually declared void.
The 'winner' on that occasion,Count Frollo, has another go but he may well find that two newcomers in the line up, Dictatorship and Jetaway Holiday, get in his way. The latter just gets the selection nod.
Kneel Diamond showed enough potential on his first start when third at Larkhill 18 months ago to suggest he is up to playing a leading role in the Maiden which brings the curtain down on the card.
